How to Stop a Boxer from Barking

Sometimes stopping your boxer from barking is as easy as fulfilling its needs. If it needs food or water, for instance, it may just require some attention from you. On the other hand, your boxer may bark constantly out of frustration over a certain thing or a specific person. This is the sort of behavior that you may want to change.

One of the best ways to stop your boxer from barking is actually to teach him to bark. By first teaching your boxer to bark on command, then teaching him to stop barking on command, you can greatly reduce his barking. The best way to accomplish this is through the use of a food reward system. Once you've used food to train the boxer to bark on command though, the next step is a bit harder. It's important to begin rewarding your boxer when he is quiet, but it's not as easy to notice a quiet boxer as it is to notice a barking boxer. You should be patient and pay close attention to your boxer's behavior for several weeks in order to reward him at the right times.

German shepherd dogs are great working dogs. They are often used as police dogs, rescue dogs and guides for the blind. In fact, one of them, a guide dog named Orient, once led a blind hiker the entire 2100 mile length of the Appalachian Trail.

If your boxer is barking because of a specific person, such as the mail person, involve the person in the training. A good way to do that is to leave boxer treats in a pre-specified area outside of your house. If the person the boxer has an issue with gives your boxer a treat every time they come to your house it will turn into a positive experience.

There are also many varieties of anti-bark collar available for boxers. Some work by giving the boxer a mild electric shock when he barks. The problem with that type of collar is that it can be hard to tell if they are working properly, unless you want to try it on yourself. Another type of anti-bark collar uses a scent, such as citronella, that the boxer dislikes. This method can be quite effective without actually hurting the boxer.

Chihuahuas, because of their size, are often treated like babies, but they actually do have something in common with human babies. Chihuahuas are born with a "molera", also known as a soft spot, on their heads, exactly like a human baby. Usually the soft spot closes as the dog matures.
