Leading Your Boxer to Obedience

Although boxers have been touted as mans best friend, canines require conditioning for a good relationship to develop. Have you ever seen a boxer that joins their owner for dinner or just takes charge of the house? Domineering boxers take charge when they are not trained who is the subordinate in the relationship.

The Schipperke, or "little captain", is generally thought of as being solid black in the USA. However, they do actually come in other colors. The reason they are commonly thought to only be black, is that the black variety is the only type currently recognized by the AKC.

So, what does it take to demonstrate to your puppy or canine that you are the top DOG of the house. Verisimilar to children, boxers try to get away with what they think their master will overlook. Neglecting to seize control of a dominant puppy can lead to many adulthood traumas, socialization issues and problem. Showing a canine who is the leader early on, ensures that an owner will always have control over their boxer.

Originating in Germany, the name Affenpinscher means, "monkey-like terrier". However, in France the breed is described as the "Diablotin Moustachu" or "moustached little devil". Both describe the appearance and attitude of this delightful breed.

But, the enforcement of leadership is a touchy issue with boxers. Too much authority may promote stubborn behavior. Teaching a puppy who the leader is is easier than training an adult boxer. Like old expression states you cant teach an old DOG new tricks, it applies to training an adult boxer. Enforcing leadership with a boxer should be executed by praising a boxer with a reward and praise when he or she is obedient.

Schipperke is Flemmish for "little captain" and the name is appropriate because most schipperkes seem to act almost human. they are happy, intelligent and usually enjoy being the center of the universe around them.

Here are a few ways to demonstrate or exercise your leadership with your boxer:

Many toy fox terriers used to be used commonly in circus shows by clowns. They are said to make great companions for owners with a good sense of humor. They seem to anticipate their master's every thought and mood.

-- To demonstrate your authority, remove your boxers food from time to time during training. Use the food to reward your boxer for good behavior.

Dandie Dinmont is a fictional character in Sir Walter Scott's "Guy Mannering", published in 1814. The main character had mustard and pepper terriers. Although Dandie Dinmont dogs were in existence for many years previously, it is this character that gave the breed their name.

-- Exit through doors first to show that youre the top boxer

When it comes to collies there is some debate about the smooth-coat collie. Some breed organizations consider the smooth-coat and rough-coat dogs to be variations of the same breed. Others consider them to be completely seperate.

-- When you have to maneuver around your pet, have it move to show dominance.

Many Scottish terriers have an odd medical condition. It is called Scotties Cramp. It is a mild neurological disorder. Scotties under stress or exercising may move erratically, when suffering from this neurological disorder, but seem fine when resting.

-- Anytime, your boxer begins to show signs of aggression directed towards you, seek the advice of a licensed veterinarian or a canine behavioral specialist.

One of the weirdest dog births on record involves a Siberian Husky. The mother's name was Pixie and she gave birth to 7 puppies, which isn't unusual. The unusual part was that one of the puppies was born bright green!
